What Readers Are Saying
A Powerful Account of Courage and Combat
“A vivid and unflinching portrayal of naval warfare that balances strategy with humanity. Bertram gives readers both the thunder of the guns and the heartbeat of the crew.”
Emily Johnson
“A compelling tribute to the sailors who carried the war across two oceans. This book ensures their voices are never forgotten. This book is not just a history.”
David Miller
Great read! A detailed look into life onboard a Light Cruiser during WWII and the Navy in general and how one ship, but also so many more, contributed to winning the greatest naval battles and WWII.
That Guy
This book does a great job of providing a ton of historical detail, while still remaining very readable. Provides the context of the Boise’s engagements within the larger war, while also getting more granular with personal details and reflections on the humor, tedium and terror of life on the ship. Loved the combination of historical document and personal narrative that the author managed to pull off so well.
